What is Reiki?
I’m so happy that so many have been excited and curious about my journey. Although reiki doesn’t really have to do with the woo — to me, it’s more like woo-adjacent; it still has to do with energy. The principle that the universe has an energy that gives form, structure, and health is also said to be capable of healing anything because its energy comes from the basic fundamentals of our reality.
So…what is reiki? I’ll go into the basics later in this post, but I think my husband explained it best. Everything is made of energy. Think of the your energy, the energy inside of you, your very energetic presence as a battery. And when we use up our energy in our day to day interactions, we get depleted just like a battery would. So what happens when a battery is about to die? We charge it. Reiki recharges our energy battery with pure universal life energy, what I like to call “the good good”. Who doesn’t want more of the good good?
The Basics
Reiki is a simple and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement. It’s a Japanese technique that promotes healing through stress reduction and relaxation. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy”. It is a non-invasive form of hands-on healing where practitioners channel Ki (energy) into their clients for rebalancing and recharging.
Reiki energy brings many benefits:
Deep relaxation
Removes energy blockages
Detoxifies the system
Provides new vitality
Increases your vibration
The recipient opens himself/herself as a channel for an energy that comes from a higher source to aid in healing or realigning one’s aura.
What Happens During a Reiki Session?
Each practitioner has their own unique practice but usually the reiki practitioner will perform some hand rituals. Some will walk you through a meditation or breath work. Then the reiki practitioner will place their hands directly on or slightly above each chakra of the recipient and spend time channeling universal life energy to that specific chakra to recharge or help with healing.
Intuitively, the practitioner might be called to spend more time on a specific area than others. Sometimes during reiki, the recipient may feel tingling in their hands or some see colours while they are relaxing and receiving treatment. And others feel nothing at all! But that doesn’t mean that it’s not working.
Practitioners can complete reiki from a distance, also known as distance reiki or reiki remote healing. The practitioner will sometimes ask for an object that will represent the recipient and they will treat said object just like they are treating the person. Practitioners are also capable of healing objects such as cars, homes or even laptops. For example, I love to super charge my crystal jewelry to give it that extra boost so when I wear it, I can reap the benefits of the good good.
How Can Reiki Support My Journey?
Reiki can absolutely support one’s healing journey, but it all comes down to the recipient’s willingness as well — willingness to remove old habits and negative patterns, to accept change and move forward with healing.
If you are interested in Reiki, then maybe you’ve been guided here on your healing journey. Or maybe you’re just curious to explore other possibilities for deep healing and inner discovery. It’s a different healing process compared with others, but I see it as a recharge and realignment. I see it as using that good good (positive energy) to recharge and push out negativities in my battery.
And now the disclaimer part — Reiki should never be used instead of medical treatment. Instead, it should be used as a compliment to any already ongoing treatment.
